When people we know get some good news or fortune
Are we happy for them,
Or in this day and age is jealousy usually the first emotion that we feel?
Has our sense of entitlement been inflated or do we think that luck is just something that happens to other people?
Let me know

I think that the recession has breed a real envy culture, appreciated there is a distorted divide between rich and poor these days, but it seems people HATE to see other people do well more than ever.
ReplyDeletethat being said if my sister won 30 million on the Euro millions and didn't give me any i'd be gutted lol
It depends who it is - if it's my friends I'm genuinely happy for them, I might have a pang of jealousy but I'll tell them. I suppose that isn't a good thing though, like is how many people are jealous of you a measure of success? It shouldn't be!
ReplyDeleteI'd probably say to them (if I knew them) I was totally jealous (although it's doubtful I would be) but that's about it. What happens in other peoples lives is there crack not mine.
ReplyDeleteMost the time I go YAY then forget all about it though lol
I think like the others said above, it depends who it is and what your situation is at the time.
ReplyDeleteI try to think if you're happy for other people, then success is more likely to come your way because of good karma? But that can be hard to be faithful to all of the time.

I'm at the stage now where I think you make your own fortune, I no longer feel jealousy about other people, instead I look at how I can improve my own situation so that I can better my current state.
ReplyDeleteI actually love hearing about opportunities other people get, or good news someone has to share, it makes me happy that good things still happen to people in our awful economic climate!
(That was a bit heavy wasn't it!)
I'm on a 'try and say something nice or nothing at all' kick, and it seems to be working. Before Christmas, if someone got a present I really wanted, I would be jealous. Now, I would ask if I could borrow it, or ask their opinion of it - is it really as good as I thought it would be? Probably not.
ReplyDeleteJust as I'm sure our own lives look all shiney from the outside to other people, we know differently.
So yes, I feel the pang of jealousy when I see my friends in their own homes, while I'm still living at home. But may be they feel a pang of jealousy at the no responsibility living I have?
It doesn't always work, but it is something I'm working on...

If the good news is well deserved then I'm happy for them. Those who seem to be in continual receipt of good fortune make me bitter, jealous and slightly narky though xx
