Cold remedies needed

So I have a cold. I'm feeling like crap and currently working from under a duvet.

I do not make a very good sick person I must admit. 

The problem with having a cold is that you feel awful but usually just look a bit meh. Runny nose, red eyes and the sneezes. What I actually feel like is that someone ran me over, buried me and then dug me up a month later. (I possibly smell this way too, I can't tell, my nose is blocked) 

The problem is, as a parent, you don't have time to be ill. If I was a child is probably get a couple of days off school, in bed, with my mummy looking after me bringing me hot blackcurrant and telling me to rest.

Instead, I get Beechams cold relief. IT'S NOT FAIR

I am poorly sick and I want my bed. I'd stamp my foot but I don't have the energy. 

So I'm going to need your help with some quick fire remedies to cure a cold that will get me feeling better asap. 

I usually swear by hot blackcurrant (thanks mum) but I don't have any. 

What do you do to get over a cold quickly? Or do you have a story about what your mum used to give you to make you feel better?

  1. Fresh honey, lemon and fresh ginger and 100mg of Vitamin C hourly, stop if you get the squits x

  2. Day Nurse and Night Nurse are fantastic, along with Sudaffed (spelling?) and ibuprofen. Plenty of hot drinks, wrap up warm and follow old sage advice.

    "starve a fever, feed a cold, drown a headache"

  3. Lots of water, preferably boiled is good. There's some evidence to suggest that peppermint tea is beneficial for sinus blockage relief. I use a warm mist humidifer to help my sinuses, and it's sooo nice. Just to have in the room (i.e. you don't have to necessarily sit with your head over it). If you don't have one of those, just boiling up a big pan of water and sitting in the same room as it will help (basically the more moist the air you're breathing in will aid your sinuses). Also, if you're not coughing too badly, laughter will help. Not just by making you feel happier in the moment, but by boosting your immune system. You can even fake it, which as a woman I know you lot know how to do. Lastly, get well soon :)

  4. I drink hot ribena, it always makes me feel better. Otherwise I go with hot water, lemon (juice if I don't have fresh) and honey, vitamin C and Echinacea - it's the best for immune support and I swear by it, I have the most pathetic excuse for an immune system going. Get as much rest as possible, squeeze in a bath if you can or just put your head over steaming hot water.

    I swear by Lemsip. If there's even a sniff of a cold coming, I have a couple of these throughout the day.

    Also, vitamin C, lots of it. x
