Nom or Vom

I don't know about you but I absolutely LOVED The X Files, growing up. So to hear that it will be returning, for me, is such a huge thing that I practically squealed with excitement. I have to admit, I never used to find David Duchovney attractive in his younger days, he is another one of those men that gets more attractive with age, IMO.

But what do YOU think? Is the truth out there? Do you find David Duchovney a Nom or a Vom?

Let me know.

Guest Post, (TW, Self Harm)

I always love having guest posts on Big Fashionista, I am lucky enough to have a lot of readers who I interact with, both here and on Twitter, and I think if my blog can be used as a platform to spread awareness, then my blog door is always open for people to spread the word. If you haven't spoken to Olivia, who is todays guest poster, then you need to give her a follow, she is a lovely person who is always there to #ShareTheLove and make other people feel good. Sometimes, we forget that the people who always spend their time caring about others, need our time too.

If you are affected by what you read, and would like some help or someone to talk to, please contact,

The Samaritans 0845 790 9090

your local doctor.

Let me pass you over to Olivia, so she can tell you her story, in her own words.

Big Fashionista x x

Hey lovely readers of Big Fashionista, it's Olivia from and the lovely Kellie has let me guest post on her blog, which for is very exciting due to me being a long time reader of her blog, and I never thought I'd be guest blogging for her!

So today I am going to talk about an issue which is close to my heart, I just have to warn you this post could be triggering and I don't want to upset anyone! The topic I am covering today is Self Harm, two big words that still manage to shock a lot of people. To me self harm is still a topic which is very much avoided by a lot of people but I am here to talk to you about my story and why it's important to talk about this issue.

So first off, I just wanted to start by saying there is not just one way when it comes to self harming, there are SO many different ways that it can be done and people just assume there isn't. The key is in the name of what it is, causing harm to yourself. I am talking from experience where this issue is concerned and I had nobody to help me when it was such a big struggle in my life but at the time it seemed like it was my only way out, and although I am on the road to recovery there are still days when I struggle with the demon. I know there are so many people out there who struggle every single day with such a damaging thing. But I wanted to let you know there are ways through this and you will be ok, I promise you now. It's scary to think how little control you feel you have against yourself when it comes to self harm. For me it was a control thing, I felt like I had no control over my life and felt it was the only way to give myself some power back.

For me it was about finding a way to give myself the feeling of power without hurting myself or anyone around me. Of course it was hard at first to find ways to get through it, I am not going to lie and said I changed over night because it's not that easy, but with each step forward I managed even longer without stepping back. There were two massive things that helped me through this pain, the first being talking, something as simple as saying to my friends- you know what I am really struggling today, help me. Was enough to distract me away from doing it to myself, having them there really saved me from myself. Secondly my blog, it's crazy to think a little place on the internet has saved me doing something like that to myself, taking my thoughts to the computer and writing out how I felt, it was like a safe haven for me, a place for me to vent and let it all out.

There are other ways too, you can talk to professionals like your doctor or a nurse believe it or not they don't look at you like your crazy or lock you up and throw away the key, they just want to help and give you the best ways to go forward in this. If you feel like you can't face talking to them, take a friend- ask them to talk for you? Or even find a community online and open up to them about your struggles even if it's anonymous, you are talking and that's a HUGE step. Do not be ashamed to admit you need help, you'll be surprised how many people really are struggling. If you ever need a chat I am here for you, and I know for a fact Kel is too! Remember you are brave and you can beat this!

Love Olivia!

I nearly didn't write this post, purely because I couldn't look at the pictures I was trying to source without nearly throwing up.

Trypophobia is a proposed pathological fear of objects with irregular patterns and holes. It isn't an officially recognised condition, but you know what, I don't need a sparkly badge to think.

Can any of you look at the below pictures without,

A, Shutting down the page.

B, Shutting down the internet

C, Crying

Genuinely, it isn't just me, is it?

This is horrific. Don't even start me on the photoshopped lotus pod instead of an eye picture. URGH,

So tell me. CAN YOU LOOK?

Or are you like me and possibly suffering from Trypophobia?

Let me know.

DKNY, With House Of Watches

Lately, I have found that after years of not owning a watch, and just checking the time via my phone, I have really got back into wearing watches. I tend to treat them as an accessory, not just for telling the time, but to compliment the outfit I am wearing, or just to have someone say, "Oh I LOVE your watch"

When I was asked if I would like to review a watch from House Of Watches, you can check them out here -> my immediate thought was, I need a white watch for summer, you know what I'm saying, white leather strap, suntan, sunglasses. OH MY GOD I NEED A HOLIDAY!!!!

Luckily, House Of Watches had a beautiful DKNY watch, that I instantly knew would be perfect for summer, the band isn't too thick, I don't want to end up with a wide watch strap mark if I can help it, also, the rose gold casing sets off the strap perfectly.

This is the sort of watch I love to wear on holiday, it feels nice and light on my wrist but you can also feel the softness of the leather strap. I am worried about it getting dirty so I do think I will save it for occasions that deserve it.

House of Watches sell a HUGE variety of watches, including Michael Kors, (for all you bloggers out there) or if TAG Heuer is more your style, then they also stock those too, as well as Superdry, for you street style bloggers.

If you want to check out my watch, the Stanhope, it is in stock, and is £75. You can find it on their website, here.

What do you think of my new watch? Do you find you are wearing watches again lately?

Let me know

This week, ladies and gents, I bring you, star of The Late Show, James Corden.

I need some Vitamin Sea

I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed a holiday.

That's right, I want some sunshine,

I want to paddle in the sea, not paddle in puddles.

I want my hair to go all tousled with REAL salt spray, giving me beach waves that are actually from the beach, instead of a bottle.

I want to wear a swimming costume, and not be so cold that my nipples are like bullets that can go off at any moment.

I want to sip cocktails, under an umbrella that shades me from the sun, not the rain.

I want to wear a sarong, not in a vaguely ironic way, but because it is polite to not walk into a cafe in a swimsuit, but it is too warm to wear anything else.

I want to wear a hat, a floppy straw hat, to protect my head and face from the midday sun. Not a knitted hat that keeps my ears warm.

and I want to look sun kissed, for REALS, not by Bourjois. (you know I love ya, Bourjois)

I want to carry a light jacket in the evening, in case the breeze picks up, not a puffa jacket because there are gale force winds and it is chucking it down.

I need a break from being cold, (Yes, I know I live in Yorkshire, this is to be expected)

How about you?

What are you looking for?

You know when you see something on Facebook that makes you want to burn the whole internet down?

Just THIS.

I don't know whether the person who created this, actually believes in their own bullshit, but this should NOT exist.

It implies that women with stretch marks didn't take care of themselves during pregnancy.

Like pregnant women don't have enough guilt thrown at them during the time they are creating NEW LIFE? Pick up a glass of anything containing alcohol and you will have people judging you as if you are reaching up inside your own vagina and strangling your unborn child. Eye up certain foods with longing and you are a DESTROYER OF LIFE. Wear heels, don't wear heels, announce you will be breastfeeding, announce you will not be breastfeeding, there will ALWAYS BE SOMEONE THERE TO JUDGE YOU, but to announce that not only did you do something WRONG, but you know what? That body you used to create new life? HIDE IT. HIDE IT AWAY LIKE A SHAMEFUL secret.

Helllllllllllllllll no.

I have stretch marks, some people call them tiger stripes, personally I prefer to call them stretch marks, I moisturised, I massaged, I have LOTS OF THEM, I had two children in less than a year, I put on weight, I lose weight, even my stretch marks have stretch marks now.

Should I have the "common decency to cover my shame"?

The person who created the piece of crap and shared it on Facebook should've had the common decency not to create this body shaming piece of crap. Whether I choose to flaunt my time ravaged body is nobody's business but my own.

I'm more offended seeing the above piece of crap being shared than I would be seeing stretch marks.

How about you?

Let me know.

Nom or Vom

Let us cast our memory back, back to a time when red swimwear was all the rage, when people ran in slow motion over the sand, when we all fancied David Charvet.

(And Pamela Anderson too)

This is David now,

Would you have wanted David to save you if you had got in trouble at the beach?

And it's his birthday today, as well.

Sharing is not caring

Are you one of those people with a social responsibility? One that you take very, very seriously? Are you considerate, caring, helpful and consider yourself to be one of the people who makes a difference in the world?

Do you do this by pressing like and share on Facebook posts warning of paedophiles in your area, or pictures of missing blonde girls who have been kidnapped, or even pictures of a man who beat up his girlfriend and you are sharing the pictures to warn others?

Over the last few weeks, this practice has been pushed to the front of peoples minds once again, after a woman took a picture in Melbourne, Australia and put it up on Facebook after she thought he was taking a picture of her children.

It turns out that the man was taking a selfie, for his own children. He was not a "creep" as she described him, he was just another human being that, in a split second was branded as a paedophile incorrectly and then found himself having this incorrect assumption spread around the world by the power of social media.

When you share a picture, and you do not know the full story, you are in danger of doing the same thing. You may feel that you are "helping" "making a difference" you aren't. What would have happened if this man would have experienced vigilantes, who had read about him being a "creep" and decided to see justice was done so that he didn't take pictures of children anymore?

What if that man DIDN'T beat up his ex girlfriend?
What happens if mistaken identity means it wasn't THAT woman who kicked a puppy?

What if people are WRONG, like the woman in Melbourne was? She has apologised, but does that make it any better? Some people will say, "Oh but you cannot be too careful these days, surely it is better to warn others, just in case" Er, unless you have the FULL FACTS, DO NOT HIT THAT SHARE BUTTON. I see pictures shared that are 5 years out of date, full of incorrect details, and basic bullshit and people just press share without thinking of the implications.

Social media is superb for spreading a message, getting things done and spreading awareness, but it is also where lies can spread like wildfire and people sometimes do not realise that they are fanning the flames.

For you it is just a "share" but be aware that this can be someones LIFE that you break.

And saying sorry afterwards if you are wrong, doesn't always make it better.

What do you think, do people believe what they read too easily on social media? Would you have shared the picture of the Melbourne man? Let me know your thoughts.

The Botanist, Leeds. Review

If you want to make me happy, wine me, dine me and........... make me laugh. It is that simple.

Last week I was invited on a girlie night out to The Botanist in Leeds with some fabulous bloggers to sample the delights that they have to offer. (The Botanist, that is, not the bloggers) The Botanist is one of those places that I keep meaning to visit and just hadn't got round to visiting and now I am sad that I have missed out on a year and a half of delicious food and gorgeous cocktails. I guess I am going to have to keep revisiting them to make up for it, aren't I?

The Botanist is described as "A concept like no other, offering a soon-to-be world famous selection of  botanical cocktails, craft beers and ales, champagne and wine, food inspired by the deli, rotisserie and BBQ"

I agree with this description, The Botanist is magical, it is like sitting in a beautiful National Trust garden, surrounded by tranquility and chandeliers made out of glassware. I felt like Alice in Wonderland after falling through the rabbit hole.

Let's start with the alcohol.

This first one is called The Botanist and is their signature cocktail. I can see why. Fresh, long, and packs a punch.

cocktails at The Botanist

This wonderful concoction is part of the Brewers & Botanists collection which pairs a miniature cocktail with a complimenting miniature cocktail, It is a great way of trying something different.

Brewers and botanists

The one on the right is a Strawberry and Cucumber Breeze.

Cocktails at The Botanist

(By this point, things were getting a little blurry, THIS is how much of myself I put into a review. No, no, don't thank me)

The food was just artistry.

Pate and a wheelbarrow of chutney

Food at The Botanist

Baked Camembert

Baked Camembert at The Botanist

Houmous at The Botanist

Everything was fresh, tasty and so beautifully presented that it was almost a crime to eat it. (almost)

Another fabulous thing about The Botanist is the live music. The night we paid a visit, it was request night, the group were superb. I highly recommend giving Trask a listen if you find them playing in Leeds.

Trask, band

Is The Botanist cheap? No, it isn't.

Is it worth EVERY penny that you pay? YES, IT IS. Every single penny. The Botanist is an experience that you will wish to revisit, over and over again.

If you are not lucky enough to live in Leeds, then you can visit one of the other The Botanists in Manchester, Chester, Newcastle, Birmingham and Alderley Edge. You can check out the website here for more information,

and if you ARE lucky enough to live in Leeds, pay them a visit, They are nestled in Trinity Leeds on Boar Lane.

Have you ever visited The Botanist before? Or have I tempted you to pay them a visit?

Let me know.

Thanks for the Memory

I LOVE USB memory sticks, I have them EVERYWHERE. I use lots of USB memory sticks for keeping copies of precious photographs, and also all my blog template details and logos as well as for my business, so when I was approached by and asked whether I would like to take a look at their range I was immediately interested. For a memory stick FIEND like myself, USB 4 Photographers is heaven.

Yes, you can get boring USB Memory sticks, but can you get ones like THIS?

USB Memory stick

Is it not time the buses moved on?

THIS!!! This has annoyed me this morning more than you can ever imagine.

It is 2015 not 1975

Tweeted BY THE COMPANY, as if they have something to be proud of.

The woman on the back of the bus, who is designed to look topless it seems, is holding a sign that says.

Ride me all day for £3

HOW in 2015 is this seen as acceptable?

WHO in their right mind would see this campaign and not see a problem with it?

WHEN will women stop being used by advertisers like this?

The New Adventure Travel Group is based in Cardiff,

Here is how you can contact them to explain how you feel.

You can also contact the ASA, which I will be doing immediately.

Big Brother is manipulating You

For the first time ever, the Big Brother contestants details have been released before the launch night programme.

I used to be a HUGE fan of Big Brother, I would watch the live feed, the shows, Big Brother's Little Brother, even Big Brother's Little Brother when the format changed, and yet now?

Right about now, I would rather shit in my hands and clap than sit through a single episode of the show.

Big Brother started life as a "social experiment." Lock strangers in a house and then document what happens over the weeks that follow.  I watched as friendships were made and broken, alliances were formed and enemies created. I got so into Big Brother that the chance of getting me to go out on an Eviction Night was IMPOSSIBLE, I couldn't even record it, I had to watch it live otherwise there was just NO POINT TO MY LIFE AT ALL.

I had my favourites each series, there was always at least one person who I just knew that I would never get on with in real life if I had to meet them and always people that I really wanted to just get it over with and snog.

But Big Brother is not just watching anymore. Big Brother is manipulating, changing the rules to suit themselves, protecting the "story lines" that they have created, as well as the characters that they have put together for maximum impact.

Big Brother is now just a soap opera, it doesn't even pretend to be anything different. It might as well have guest appearances from ex Coronation Street characters.

They don't even attempt to have "normal" people anymore. Who remembers when Big Brother used to have hairdressers as contestants? Now it is all about having a cousin who once shagged Dean Gaffney, Are you quiet and retiring? Then you do not have a chance of appearing on Big Brother. Big Brother contestants over the last few years have even amped up their interviews, claiming bi-sexuality, alluded that they would have sex in the Big Brother House or that they were FUN, FUN, FUN, just to try to get on the show.

Big Brother is now just a migraine in human form.

From "Big Brother is watching you," to "Big Brother is manipulating you" is a step too far. If I want to see a soap opera full of glamorous young people and the occasional loud "oldie" thrown in for demographic reasons, I will watch Hollyoaks.

How about you?

Will you be watching when it starts tomorrow, or has the manipulation gone too far?

Let me know.
