the Positives of 2016

I apologise in advance for the gushiness of this post, but I make no apologies for saying that, apart from all the famous people dying (that was kind of shit) you know what?

2016 was kind of a good year for me.

Now I'm not saying that Bowie died for my happiness or anything, but I am going to look back on this year with fondness.

I married my soul mate. A man that makes me so happy, I could burst. A man that is truly and utterly my equal and who makes me smile and laugh every day. I have never been so happy, comfortable or felt so loved as I do now.

My children grew a year older, if not a year wiser (what can I say, they are children) Ooooooooooh, one got amazing GCSE results, one got voted House Captain at school and one decided that maybe the Xbox wasn't the most important thing in his life (baby steps, right?)

I also discovered what feels like my true vocation and decided that in 2017 I am going to train to be a Teaching Assistant. I start my course in February and already work in a classroom a couple of days a week.

I had some amazing experiences in 2016, I visited some beautiful places, I got to hug my mummy on my wedding day and each day I remembered to be thankful for everything that I have.

Whilst everyone else will be glad to see the back of 2016, and I have to admit, the Grim Reaper seems to have become a bit of a power crazy bitch this year, I can't lie.

This has been one of the best years of my life.

How about you?

What positive things have you experienced in 2016? What would make your highlight reel?

Let me know.

  1. I agree on a personal level 2016 hasnt been that bad. My gorgeous little nephew was born in September, my eldest son finally got a diagnosis of bipolar and the treatment and support he needs to kick its arse. I am still madly in love with my husband, and I got a kitten :-D

    1. Sounds like a good 2016 to me. Life isn't all flowers and rainbows is it. Sometimes the good things are what we make them.

  2. This is so lovely to read. You & A are literally the best-suited couple I know, and probably the happiest! Your wedding was so great and I'm so happy I could be there to see you beaming from ear to ear and looking utterly stunning, and the look on A's face as you walked down the aisle was just heart-meltingly wonderful. You can just see how in love you are, and the kids - you have the nicest kids! And your family has really come together, it's so fantastic to see. X

  3. This is a lovely post to read. Having known you, albeit only online, for several years it is so nice to see you so blissfully happy. It's also cheering to read something uplifting and positive when a lot of the news is so so grim.

I've been considering doing a similar 2016 post myself so I hope you don't mind me using your comment space as a tester? Cos in some ways I've had a great year too - I think I fell in love, I also met someone for the first time and had feelings for them I've never had about anyone ever, and my first book was published - MASSIVE BOOM!

However I've also been ghosted, gaslighted, and dumped for being too old. I'm spending Christmas back in the house grew up in, in a single bed, still single. Which at least will provide me with the opportunity to write more stories and hopefully get more published! But it's been a very mixed year.

Anyway, thank you for providing with a space to write this. Am sending much love to you northwards, xxx

    1. Hello beautiful lady. I definitely think it is important to focus on the positives isn't it? Please write about it, I always find it cathartic to write things like this. YES, a published author. Now THAT IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF

  4. I'm looking back on 2016 in 2 ways, in some ways it the worst year but at the same time it truly was the best year. I moved in with my partner after 2 years of being long distance, I went to Amsterdam, saw Matilda the musical, worked with the BHF on raising awareness of Marfan Syndrome and most importantly for the first time in 3 years I got through a year without an operation! I really can't wait to write up my post about the good things that have happened this year x

  6. Oh Kellie, I remember when you DM'd me your wedding photos and I was so ridiculously happy seeing them! There was so much love in those photos and it was beautiful - I'm so happy that you're happy and feel so loved. It's a truly wonderful thing and I wish you and your hubby the best for the future, you totally deserve it!

2016 has been very hit and miss (mostly miss!) for me but it's made me even more grateful for my lovely boyfriend who has supported me and helped me when I needed it. I'm also very happy that I discovered Reece's Peanut Butter Cups because DAMN they're good.

Hope you have an amazing 2017 with your family and your new career choice (very proud!!) and I wish you the best of luck with it all xx

  7. I love that 2016 has been so great for you when the world seems to have gone a little crazy. Seeing you so happy with Adey makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside, especially knowing how great he is with the kids/at writing sassy tooth fairy letters. I hope 2017 is just as magical for you and your gorgeous family 💕💕💕

  9. Ok so we're all in agreement that if you're a celeb 2016 has been pretty crap and let's face it they're probably all walking around humming Prof Cox's 'things can only get better' whilst they keep an eye on their backs...

But to me 2016 will always be the year I remember as the year I started to live out my dreams - I've met some amazing friends through what I do and had some amazing experiences!

I've loved reading your experiences of being a newly wed and if I ever get to experience just an inch of your happiness I will be content in life!

    Here's to 2017!
